Dear DealersOnline Customers,
DealersOnline a vehicle dealer Online Business wishes to draw the attention of our customers and members of the general public to the prevalence of fraudulent activity being perpetuated by fraudsters who aim to deceive and defraud our customers and the general public.
With Cyber-crime on the increase, you should be vigilant to ensure that you do not become a victim of crime.
A fraudster will deliberately misrepresent himself or herself as a member of, or as someone acting on behalf of or working with, DealersOnline for criminal purposes. Such scams normally originate by email or on social media platforms such as FaceBook. Such communication will either promise the recipient a vehicle with descriptions and price points which appear to be too good to be true in return for paying a modest sum up front (an advance fee type fraud) or request personal or financial information about the recipient or the recipient’s bank account allegedly in order that money can be paid to them (an identity theft type fraud). In an attempt to give legitimacy or respectability to the scam, sometimes the email will direct the recipient to a false website that intentionally replicates the look of a legitimate website (a cloned website).
Note that we do not use Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo addresses. Please check the domain from which you receive an email to establish it is a genuine email from us.
Any communication that is sent from DealersOnline is only sent from our registered domain name @auction.co.za and/or @dealersonline.co.za
DealersOnline will NEVER change our banking details during your transaction nor will we accept changes to your banking details via email. Please also exercise caution when responding to any requests for your banking details or notices of changes to banking details to others. Do not transfer money without speaking to an employee or consultant of DealersOnline. DealersOnline will not accept responsibility if you transfer money to an incorrect or wrong bank account or we receive instructions to send money to an incorrect account.
If you receive an unsolicited and poorly worded email or FaceBook Communication from someone you do not know who is using a free email service and an unusual email address and it contains information or an offer which appears too good to be true, it very likely is not true.
If you receive an email purporting to come from DealersOnline or any of our personnel, or if you receive any documentation or offers via FaceBook or any other social media platform, and you have doubts or concerns about the provenance of the email or communication, before taking any action please either contact the member you normally deal with at DealersOnline or email email@example.com and we tell you whether the email or communication came from us.
Please note that DealersOnline have no involvement in these or any other scams, and does not accept liability for any loss or inconvenience resulting from communication with unauthorised persons or activities.
